A mother was killed and her daughter was critically wounded in a domestic-related shooting early Friday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, police said.

About 12:05 a.m., a 25-year-old woman was involved in an argument with her boyfriend in the 5400 block of South Laflin Street, police said. When the woman's mother attempted to intervene, the boyfriend shot both women, said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

Theresa Spearman, 46, suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and upper back and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where she was pronounced dead at 12:36 a.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The daughter was shot multiple times in the torso and was also taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, Greer said.

The boyfriend fled the scene after the shooting, Greer said.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
