Palatine's Little City Foundation is looking to hire an Assistant Director for its children's program.


The Assistant Director is directly responsible for the daily administration of the ChildBridge Center for Group Home Living program.


A Master's degree in social work or Master's in a DCFS approved human services field and at least 2 years' full time experience in a residential childcare program required. In addition, five years of relevant experience working with children with developmental, behavioral, and/or emotional challenges, preferred. At least three years administrative and/or supervisory experience required. Must meet the minimum credentials to serve as a Mental Health Professional (MHP) . DSP Certification or be eligible to obtain within 6 months of employment required. Experience with DCFS, DHS, and Medicaid Rule 132, preferred.


1. Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate direct reports including but not limited to Home Managers, DSP staff and Operations Assistant.

2. Observe direct reports in the milieu setting and provide regular supervision of direct reports to review overall performance, administrative activities, and provide feedback. Evaluate performance of direct reports at a minimum, annually.

3. Collaborate with the Medical Department to ensure that all children's appointments are maintained and attended.

4. Review Medication Administration Records for medication errors; ensure proper follow up and feedback has been given to staff according to Rule 116 and LCF Policy. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable DCFS and DHS.

5. Responsible for ensuring expenses within the Homes are within budget, providing documentation when this cannot be feasibly accomplished, and developing a plan of action in such cases to minimize net loss. Reviews monthly budget requests. Approves all purchases in advance, reviews all receipts upon return of home program card.

6. Collaborates with the Clinicians to monitor the delivery and implementation of mental health services according to the children's Mental Health Assessment, Behavior Plans and programs/groups offered to mitigate symptoms.

7. Collaborates with the Case Management Team to monitor the delivery and implementation of services according to the Children's Service Plan.

8. Collaborate with Transportation to ensure van safety procedures are followed, vans are checked out and returned with keys according to schedule, and that all vans maintain cleanliness.

9. Presents as the first point of contact for all DHS, DCFS Licensing and DCP in the homes. Cooperates with DCFS inquiries related to any and all issues related; coordinates with other Departments as needed to provide DCFS/DHS with necessary follow up information related to programmatic inquiries. Maintains a working knowledge of Rules 384 and Rule 403.

10. Partners with direct reports to provide incentive and corrective action to direct support personnel staff (DSPs). Maintains a working knowledge of the Union Contract and operates within the contractual agreement.

11. Collaborates with Human Resources Team to ensure adequate staffing, training compliance, and pursues HR input on issues related to egregious personnel matters. Maintains a working knowledge of Little City HR Policy and Procedure.

12. Tracks and provides feedback to direct reports on shift documentation including, but not limited to, Medicaid, Shift Notes, Home Logs, Mileage Logs, Body Checks, UIRS, and other necessary documentation. Maintains a working knowledge of Medicaid Rule 132.

13. Collaborates with the Group Homes Operation's Assistant to review and address home staffing and issues related including, but not limited to, overtime/overtime cap, ADP, "punches", tardiness, call-offs, etc.

14. Ensures that direct reports have returned plans of correction for Environmental Inspections, have returned fire drill/tornado drill reports, and maintained compliance with Maintenance procedures, and have prepared the homes for monthly extermination.

15. Develops the Program Schedule for the homes with the input of assigned clinical and case management teams. Ensures that program is implemented according to schedule and that children receive adequate supports in the milieu to be successful in participation.

16. Protects the confidentiality of people served by the agency.

17. Maintains on-call coverage and crisis support 24/7 in conjunction with team members.

18. Maintains awareness of safety; monitors activities in the workplace and immediately report all accidents and safety hazards to the Director of Program Compliance & Regulatory Relations.

19. Assist with the creation and implementation of policy, procedure, and protocol related to the delivery of services to children living in the CGH program.

20. Completes, or oversees completion, of quarterly outcome reports, demographic reports, and other monitoring tools used for quality assurance purposes, and ensures compliance to corrective action plans.

21. Determines, in conjunction with the ChildBridge Leadership Team, program staffing and workload management, within the budgetary framework.

22. Assists the Director with implementation of the strategic and tactical plans for the Children's Group Home Program.

23. Reviews all work orders, cash requests, check requests, and purchase orders for the Children's Group Home Program.

24. Review monthly and quarterly Unusual Incident Report, Physical Restraint Report, and Outcome Management Report and utilize information to improve service delivery. Ensure follow up as necessary.

25. Assists the Director in developing the annual budget by providing key information regarding staffing needs, consultation, program support, and other items as requested.

26. Successfully completes Little City Foundation required training, re-training, and any additional training as required by Little City Foundation policies and practices, or as assigned by his or her immediate supervisor.

27. Participates on committees and task forces as requested.

28. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to sitting, walking, and standing for prolonged periods; frequently grasps, lifts, holds, or feels objects; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working with persons served and handling office, medical, or household equipment. The employee is subject to assist and lift up to 50 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must have the ability to perform CPR and CPI. Occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious substances, including communicable diseases when performing personal care (Category III). Occasional exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants. Residential work environment with a noise level of normal to loud.
