Falling asleep to a YouTube celebrity

MYFOXNY.COM -

New York City is known as the city that never sleeps. And for good reason: an estimated 40 percent of adults experience insomnia every single year.

Millions are now turning to the self-proclaimed 'sleep whisperer' on YouTube. It's not only Ilse Blansert's voice that's meant to lull you to sleep. She performs mundane tasks like painting her nails or talking you through an ear exam. If you think these videos are, um, unique, so were the answers when we asked New Yorkers how they fall sleep.

"I take a hot bath."

"I wait until there's nothing left on Instagram to watch."

"I rub VapoRub on myself."

Yes VapoRub -- the stuff you rub on your chest when you get sick. Perhaps that is not as weird as my habit of watching "real housewives" before bed.

To get those elusive 8 hours, experts say relax your mind. The advice is as old but clearly not as simple as just counting sheep.

Hopefully you managed to stay awake until the end of this report. If not, sweet dreams.

When our heads hit the pillow at night, we all dream, experts say. But can something influence what we dream about? Dr. Ross Levin, a behavioral sleep specialist and clinical psychologist, says there is an abundance of urban myths about dreams. No, good and bad smells or spicy foods won't influence your dreams. But reading or watching something scary before you go to bed might cause you to dream about something disturbing.

Deep beneath the hustle and bustle of Tribeca lies a modern-day oasis brimming with old world charm: Aire Ancient Baths, my new favorite city escape. The breathtaking spa is illuminated by hundreds of candles and smells of invigorating eucalyptus. For around $80 you can bathe in the tranquil blue pools for 90 minutes and find the temperature that's right for you.

The saying art is autobiographical takes on a whole new meaning when your canvas is a fully nude human body, as it is for artist Andy Golub. Andy along with 30 other artists and 45 Technicolor models paraded around several Manhattan hotspots over the weekend for NYC Body Painting day. Believe or not, this is completely legal in New York City.
