Police: 8 Women Robbed At Knifepoint, Possibly By Same Man

PHILADELPHIA -

It's a terrifying piece of surveillance video, and police say scenes very similar to this one have played out several times in a local neighborhood as a robber armed with a knife targets women walking alone.

Police are warning women in the area to be extra vigilant after the rash of violent robberies, and they're working hard to track this guy down before he strikes again, FOX 29's Chris O'Connell reported Monday night from Overbrook Park.

These days Isaiah Livingston won't let his mother walk home at night alone.

"I have to look out for her. I can't let her walk home by herself so I am meeting her at the bus stop," said the Overbrook Park teenager.

He's reacting to the latest attack on a neighborhood woman that happened Monday.

Police say the same man may be responsible for eight knifepoint robberies since Jan. 13.

Police are warning women in Overbrook Park to be vigilant especially when walking alone.

"In my opinion, he's a coward," Lt. John Walker, of Southwest Detectives, said of the robber.

Police investigators say a man was seen on surveillance video Jan. 29 robbing and dragging a woman at knifepoint. Since then, police say he is involved in the attacks targeting seven other women. In most accounts, the man approaches the women from behind with a knife and demands money.

"He's back out there, and our biggest concern is that he's attacking females who are walking in most cases by themselves," said Walker.

Monday's attack happened on the 7500 block of Brookhaven Road, where the man approached a woman getting into her car. He took her purse and took off. She was not injured.

Investigators believe the man lives nearby and is familiar with the area. Women are urged to stay on alert.

"It's sad, it's disheartening because you move out of that type environment to keep your kids safe," said resident Gayle Livingston.

Police say since the man approaches women from behind they do not have a solid description.

If you know who this person is, call Philadelphia police on their tipline at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or use the Twitter hashtag #justatip.
