Sole Brother and Shoe Man

Posted: Updated:

I absolutely LOVE what Travon Muhammad is doing. Years ago, he was at a basketball tournament where there was a kid making one bucket after another. The boy was an awesome player!

But Travon noticed the kid wasn't wearing basketball shoes. He had a pair of beat up vans. When Travon approached the player to congratulate him on his game, Travon also asked him if he forgot his basketball shoes. The kid told him his parents couldn't afford any and that's all he had. Saddened, Travon vowed to do something about it. He started by giving the boy his own shoes (luckily same size) and he later founded a non-profit called "Sole Brothers".  Travon collects gently used sneakers/basketball shoes and donates them to kids in need all over Los Angeles.

So, if you have any shoes that no longer fit your kids, I encourage you to please donate them to Sole Brothers. His motto is simple: changing one sole at a time.

Here is link to Sole Brothers on Facebook.

If you know people like Travon Muhammad making a difference in the community, please let Gina know so she can recognize them on FOX 11 News.

Making New York City more energy efficient

Making New York City more energy efficient

    Friday, July 25 2014 8:45 PM EDT2014-07-26 00:45:49 GMT
More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
