Detroit fire hydrant leaking for more than 24 hours

(WJBK) -

A fire hydrant in front of an east-side Detroit home on Moenart Street has been leaking steadily for more than 24 hours.

Neighbors on the street say they have called the water department several times but a crew has not come to address the problem.

"I called them last night and they said they'll give me someone out in about a couple hours. I called this morning and they said, 'Oh, we never recovered a call,'" one neighbor tells FOX 2's Andrea Isom. They also say their street has not been plowed and the drains are also blocked.

Isom called the water department and a worker said an exact time could not be estimated, but a crew currently fixing a water main break would address the hydrant when they finished with the break.

The crew did come and shut off the hydrant later Friday night.

If you have a water main or fire hydrant problem on your street that needs attention you can call the water department's emergency line at (313) 267-7401.
