EVANSTON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The wall of a car wash collapsed Friday in north suburban Evanston.

Firefighters were called to Hand Suds Wash, at 2212 Green Bay Rd., about 1:54 p.m., Evanston fire officials said in a release.

The northern wall of the building, which is about 125 feet long, was separating from the roof and part of it collapsed, the release said.

Crews evacuated the car wash as well as a car dealership to its north, the release said.

City building officials, a structural engineer and utility crews are evaluating the damage, the release said.

A portion of the southbound lane of Green Bay Road at Noyes Street is closed to traffic as cleanup continues.
