PICKENS, S.C. -

Have you ever rented a movie and forgot to return it? That's what happened to one South Carolina woman, only for her, it meant a night in jail.

27-year-old Kayla Finley went to the Pickens County Jail to report a crime, but was charged with one instead.

The offense: petty larceny -- a misdemeanor, for 'failure to return rented video or cassette.'

It turns out back in 2005, Finley never returned the movie  "Monster in Law," which she rented from the now out of business Dalton Video Store.

Authorities say she received a warning letter -- a claim Finley disputes -- and  a warrant was issued.

The arrest has other movie renters shaking their heads.

"You keep it for as long as you want.. just pay per day," said a renter.

"I'm thinking jail.. I'm thinking about jail.. somebody going to jail over a movie that they didn't return," said Christine Lee.

"It's sort of crazy.  There's more that we can be worried about than a movie that's nine years late," said Richard Lee.  "What took them nine years to serve a warrant on somebody."

Even though the video store has gone out of business, that warrant doesn't expire.

Finley says she plans to fight the charges.
