Designer Michele Savoia found dead

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The body of a well-known fashion designer was pulled out of the Hudson River on Sunday.

Police confirmed that it was Michele Savoia, who was reported missing after attending a Fashion Week party.

It wasn't clear how Savoia ended up in the river, but police do not suspect foul play.

Savoia, 55, had designed clothes for the likes of Robert Deniro and Mickey Rourke and was known as 'Savoia the Tailor.'He was last seen leaving a fashion week celebration at the Chelsea nightclub marquee early Friday morning.

But when his longtime friend and driver couldn't reach him later that day and Savoia didn't show up to a Valentine's dinner Friday night, friends reported him missing.

Their worst fears were confirmed Sunday when his body was recovered from the icy waters near Pier 59.  He lived on a boat that was docked nearby

His driver, Alberto Alonso, says Savoia won't be forgotten.

“He walked into a room you knew he was walking into the room, he just had that presence, you know?” Alonso said.

Savoia had a boutique on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

It's a running joke that if you mention the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center to nearly anyone in Hollywood they're going to know exactly what you're talking about because odds are they might have gotten their first big break there. Would you believe some Hollywood's biggest stars -- Meryl Streep, Michael Douglas, Angela Bassett -- got their start in a big red barn in the middle of nowhere.
