Randy Jackson: New Role, A Whole New Thing

Posted: Updated:

Randy Jackson is returning to American Idol on the 13th season in his new role as an in-house mentor. He will begin participating on the show starting with the "Rush Week" live shows on February 18. Jackson plans to help the Top 15 girls prepare for their performances in front of the judges, then the next day he will help the Top 15 guys in the same manner.

In a new twist this season on American Idol, not all 30 singers will get to perform, as the judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. will choose only whom they think are worthy of America's vote, leaving some packing their bags before they get a chance to sing.

Randy has known for being a judge on American Idol since the beginning of the series. He is also an American bassist, singer, record producer, entrepreneur and TV personality. He's also won a Grammy Award as a producer.

‘American Idol' airs tonight at 8:00pm on FOX.
