Wicked Winter Weather

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - The tri-state area is in the middle of an active winter weather pattern that results in snowfall every three to four days. It looks like the weather that took place overnight into today could in fact be the biggest snow storm that New Jersey is set to see this winter.

In order to get a better understanding of how long these conditions will continue to affect the people of New Jersey, Justin Auciello with Jersey Shore Hurricane News and John Homenuk from nymetroweather.com spoke out about this steady snowfall.

“It’s definitely been a rough couple weeks. For us it’s been very busy and the interesting thing right now is we have our sights pretty much set on the storm system coming up for tonight into Thursday and it looks like it could be the storm system that this winter is remembered for. A lot of impacts in the south right now, Georgia is looking at a significant ice storm, up to an inch of ice secretion and as this system moves up the coast and interacts with a bunch of other atmospheric disturbances it looks more than likely that we’re gonna have to be dealing with a significant nor’easter here by the time Thursday morning comes around,” Homenuk explained.

It’s expected that some parts of New Jersey will be seeing about a foot of snow, not to mention the strong winds that are affecting snow drifts and making conditions dangerous for people on the road.

“As far as the scale of the storm system and most likely the impacts of this system would be the most sever we’ve seen this season. It varies based on where your location is but throughout New Jersey, this one looks like a high impact storm,” Homenuk said.

The folks over at Jersey Shore Hurricane News (JSHN) have been keeping a close eye on this storm as well and they aim to keep New Jerseyans connected and deliver all the information they need through mobile apps and social media.

“What I’m planning is basically a mobile app that would allow people to report weather conditions in their area and this is gonna be GIS based and G-O coded so wherever you are you can snap a photo, upload it to the map and then we can get a good picture of what’s going on. Plow status is also very important because I like to crowd source on JSHN about how the plows are doing in people’s communities. Obviously I’m gonna have people report after a reasonable amount of time, but this is a way to keep the officials on their toes and really to get the job done,” Auciello explained.

People are urged to take extra precautions today and not to venture out in this weather unless it’s absolutely necessary.
