Drone/UAV flying: Is it legal? Is it safe?

Drones just aren't for the U.S. Air Force, the Border Patrol, or the CIA anymore. The technology is now available for everyone. Most hobby stores sell them starting for around $500 up through a few thousand dollars. But is it safe or legal for just anyone to buy a drone and just start flying it with no instruction or training?

It will take 21 years and close to 1 billion dollars. But if all goes well, a University of Arizona scientist will make history when a NASA spacecraft returns part of an asteroid that could one day impact earth. It's a mission that could be de-railed by what is happening in Ukraine.

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Two families have been waiting for over three years for answers -- answers into who killed two young women who were found strangled.

One of the women was pregnant and both were victims of a very disturbing crime that still goes unsolved.

"No parent should ever have to go through this and no parent should have to bury their own kids," said Sandra Minjarez.

"It's a parent's worst nightmare," said Rachel Glass.

The two mothers are heartbroken after their daughters' lives were cut short.

It was Friday, December 3, 2010.  Phoenix Police received a call to a central Phoenix home where 27-year-old Nicole Glass and 27-year-old Melissa Mason, who was 8 weeks pregnant -- lived as roommates.  A friend of the women discovered the gruesome scene: their bodies were lying on the living room floor -- strangled to death.

"You keep thinking this is like a bad dream, but it's not.  They didn't tell me until 3:00 in the morning that it was a positive ID.. it was her," said Nicole's mother, Rachel.

Since the triple murder, police have not stopped investigating.  But with very few leads to go on, no arrests have been made and the case remains unsolved.

"You have no closure, it's like who could have done this.  It's just horrific," said Rachel.

"In the back of my mind," said Melissa's mother, Sandra. "She's always there and I'm always thinking when is this case going to be solved?"

In Sandra's Tucson home, she has constructed a special monument for her daughter -- a way for her to feel close to her everyday.

"When I look at the pictures, I smile.  It makes me happy and I just feel she's with us, watching over us."

Silent Witness continues to try and spur on leads -- in fact, just weeks ago -- they distributed playing cards with unsolved crimes into the jails -- the women are featured on the 6 of hearts.

With no closure -- no idea -- who did this to their daughters -- they can only hope those responsible come forward.

"I never got a chance to see my grand baby, whether it was going to be a baby girl or a baby boy and she never had the chance to be a mom, so they robbed us from all of that," said Sandra.

"It's hard, it's really hard at the end of her life you wonder, did she suffer?  Was she worried?  Was she terrified?  I don't know if she was beat up before that.  Hopefully one day I will," said Rachel.

With each passing year, those close to the case are hoping this is the year they'll get the news they've been so desperate to hear.

If you have any information about this case, call Silent Witness.  You can remain anonymous and receive a cash award for tips leading to an arrest or indictment.
