Anti-graffiti bill: Minors would be prohibited from buying spray paint

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

How about a new bill we can all get behind -- like cracking down on graffiti.

Arizona Democrat Chad Campbell is proposing a bill that would prevent minors from getting their hands on spray paint, markers and etching tools that are used in tagging and graffiti.

Campbell says graffiti is a huge problem for businesses and homeowners.

Under the bill, anyone caught selling spray paint or other items used in graffiti to minors would face fines of at least $500.

"Right now, it's just not state law. Some cities have enacted this type of law, some cities haven't, but the bottom line is we need a uniform policy no matter what it is so that one city isn't taking on the fight against graffiti while another city may not be doing the same type of thing," said Campbell.

Campbell says some stores have had opposition to similar measures because they would lose revenue from sales if those under 18 couldn't buy their products.
