Ramone Johnson works for the city of Detroit in the street maintenance division. In the winter he's part of a team that salts and plows the main streets. Private contractors handle neighborhood streets.

FOX 2 photographer Joe Harris went along for the ride Tuesday during metro Detroit's latest round of snowfall.

Johnson recommends when you see a snow plow to give it enough room to do its job. He says staying 50 feet behind the plow will give it enough room to maneuver, and you will avoid being pelted by the salt spreaders.

He says he loves coming to work and doing his job, and that the city has a great team of workers that do a "heck of a job."

"We are here for the citizens, and I am also a citizen so I like to keep the streets safe for me and my family as well as you and yours."
