Recovering User Explains Bad Heroin Batch In Delaware Valley

Posted: Updated:
Kensington -

It's real and it's right in our back yard. This bad batch of heroin is on the streets of the Delaware Valley and one recovering user tells us it's more than he bargained for.

33-year-old Justin knows a thing or two about Fentanyl-laced heroin, a tainted version linked to more than 100 deaths across the country…including Pennsylvania.

"It's cheaper for drug dealers to cut it with Fentanyl. The withdrawal comes on quicker. Your body becomes addicted to it quicker. Therefore, you need it more," Justin said.

Justin requested we hide his identity…but wants his story told in recovery for a month after a recent relapse, he says he's done this form of heroin…and is thankful he's alive to talk about it.

"Sure it scares me, thinking that I dodged a bullet more or less. That would have been me at any given time," Justin said.

The Feds say 22 PA residents have died in recent weeks from this batch and Justin says the Fentanyl form is very easy to get.

"The good stuff on the street is Fentanyl-laced. People go down to Kensington and other…inner cities looking for the best stuff," Justin said.

It's currently branded with names like "bud ice" and "income tax" often carrying stamps similar to these.

But now federal lawmakers like U.S. Sen. Bob Casey are worried about re-branding…and want Washington to crack down.

Justin says he knows first-hand how painful it is losing friends to this drug.

"I've lived with guys here personally that have left the house and died within a couple days. It's a sad situation. These are people that I care about." Justin said.

Just days ago one man was arrested and charged with intent to sell $2,000 bags of heroin some believed to be related to the overdose deaths, but the idea tells me they continue to actively investigate the source of this batch. They're working with local and state law enforcement groups in the process.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
