COLD SPRING, Minn. (KMSP) -

It wasn't the outcome one Minnesota town had hoped for, but former Rocori High School and University of Minnesota star Eric Decker still has the support of his family and fans in his hometown.

Although he probably dreamed of a different outcome, Eric Decker had said going to play in the Super Bowl was the realization of a lifelong dream. Those who gathered to watch the game on Sunday just off Main Street in the heart of Cold Spring had envisioned a different atmosphere unfolding, but the community still came together to celebrate their beloved son.

"They're all Broncos fans now," Jim Decker, the star player's uncle, told Fox 9 News.

The Side Bar and Grill was decked out in orange and Navy Blue, and Eric Decker's #87 jersey was about as common a sight as a pint of beer.

"Everyone is just super excited for Eric and here to support him," David Sauer, a former high school teammate, said.

Sauer said he felt optimistic before kickoff because he's seen what Decker can do first-hand.

"Peyton Manning and I have something in common," Sauer said. "We've both thrown touchdowns to Eric."

From dominating the high school field to flourishing with the Golden Gophers, Eric Decker has been a top offensive threat for Denver. Even as the Broncos fell behind, it was still a special night for his family.

"I always followed his career and knew that something good was going to happen to this kid," Jim Decker said. "I didn't know it was going to be the Super Bowl."

In the end, neither Manning nor Eric Decker could overcome the horrid start, leaving the team from the mile-high mountains to fall flat on the grandest stage in sports; however, that won't lessen the love this town feels for its hometown hero.

"We just want to see Eric do well," Sauer said. "No matter what, we'll still love him."
