PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

A couple's fight turns deadly in West Phoenix ending with a woman behind bars charged with killing her boyfriend.

Neighbors who heard what happened say they heard a single gunshot overnight. When the sun came up they were shocked to see a dead body in their apartment complex.  Police say this all happened in front of a 5-year-old kid.

Neighbors were shocked to wake up to this scene Saturday morning the victim, a 26-year-old man, still lying in the staircase landing. "When I came out the body was like that and from what I heard was they were fighting and she chased him out the door," said Elizabeth Pacheco.

Police say they responded to a domestic violence call near 70th Ave & Indian School overnight. Officers found the man face down in the staircase with a gunshot wound

"It was about 4:30 it was just a gunshot and a bunch of screaming afterward screaming "help me" and that's really it," said a neighbor who did not want to be identified.

24-year-old Ashley Eide was arrested and now faces one count of manslaughter. Neighbors noticed the couple wasn't getting along recently. "From what everybody says yes they constantly argued and stuff," said Pacheco.

No one in the neighborhood thought their last argument would end this way. "One gunshot, she took a pretty good shot," said the unidentified neighbor.

Investigators say that Eide was hurt during a domestic violence incident that occured just before the shooting. Eide was booked into jail on one count of manslaughter as authorities say she did not plan to murder her boyrfirned.

Police say that the 5-year-old kid wasn't hurt during the ordeal, and is now in the custody of Child Protective Services.
