REALTED: Gov. Deal: "This is a bad situation"

Authorities say the incident occurred on Coan Road, just east of Willow Creek Drive in McDonough when a pickup truck, driven by 17-year-old Nash Beever, struck a tree.

The white Ford Ranger, which was also occupied by four other people, left the roadway around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Beever was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to Henry County Police, a female passenger was transported to Grady in serious condition and three other passengers were transported to regional medical centers.

"It is a very tough loss for everyone in the Henry County School System, and especially those in the Locust Grove High School community.  Our thoughts are with all of those close to this student during this very difficult time.  A crisis response team will be at school the first day we return from the inclement weather."
