A football-Broadway musical crossover?

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Dressed like the front-men for a 1980s hair-band, standing before an auditorium of paying viewers, while singing thespians dance about around them, three NFL skill players are going down a road they know very little about.

The musical "Rock of Ages" cast Randall Cobb, Joique Bell and Ahman Green in speaking roles for its Super Bowl week shows. If any of those three aspire for a repeat performance, they should hope critics treat them better than those we approached on the street. Here is some of what was said:

"They're probably going to fumble the entire time."

"Be better on the field than in the show unless they can sing and dance."

"I'll take Reggie Bush over Joique Bell."

"Can they speak?"

If they can memorize a playbook, they should remember their lines. Professional football players debut on Broadway the same night the cast of "Motown the Musical" performed at media day.

The same week, an opera singer belts out the most-watched rendition of the National Anthem we'll see or hear until Super Bowl 49.

It seems Super Bowl 48 cares not for whatever societal norms separate thespians and football players. Both cultures exist on stages of sorts demand training religiously and attract legions of fans.

Still resisting? You'll give in eventually.
