(WJBK) -

Birmingham police say Ryan Greer, 27, ran up a $20,000 bill in a single day at the Townsend Hotel using a stolen credit card.

He first rented out a presidential suite for him and his 45 closest friends. Police say the group was also ordering $500 bottles of champagne and acquired a near $10,000 bill at the Corner Bar downstairs using a fake ID, where he was buying more bottles of expensive champagne and rounds of shots for the entire bar.

That generosity ran out when the bar was closing and the card was declined. Around that same time, the hotel learned the card used for the room was also declined. Police were called to the scene and Greer was taken into custody. Greer is being held on a $100,000 bond.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
