Collier Drive impassable due to water main break

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A portion of Collier Drive in northwest Atlanta is expected to be closed for several days following a major water main break on Monday.

According to the city's Department of Watershed Management, the 16-inch water main break caused a huge sinkhole in the road.

City officials blame the variety of weather in the last few days for the break to the pipe.

Water service was interrupted in the neighborhood for several hours, but has since been restored. It is unclear exactly how long the road will remain closed between Valley Heart Drive and Chalmers Drive.  Work to repair the road is expected to last for more than a week

Motorists are being encouraged to use alternate routes.
