Gina's People: Children Of War

Posted: Updated:

His beautiful smile hides the awful pain 7-year-old Abdul has endured. On July 21st of last year, Abdul was playing with his brother and sister in their backyard.  Suddenly, intense fighting broke out between NATO forces and the Taliban.  Abdul's siblings were killed, his right leg was blown off and his left foot shattered.

Now, a local organization called "Children Of War Foundation" and Shriners Hospital For Children Los Angeles is teaming up to help Abdul.  Doctors will be doing several surgeries and building a prosthesis for Abdul. All of it free of charge to his family.

Children Of War Foundation has been operating for the last 4 years. So far, they've been able to help 110 children from around the world.

Every Monday, we recognize people and organizations making a difference in the community. If you know of someone who should be recognized, here's how to let us know:

Gina's People: We want to hear from you!

Gina has seen her share of people throughout Southern California – real characters with real stories many making a difference each day with little to no recognition. These are Gina's People, hometown heroes who quietly go about making Southern California and the world a better place for all of us.

If you know a person or a group who deserves some recognition, please fill out this form which goes directly to Gina.

Help her tell the stories of the people and groups who make a big difference each day.
