Tech Check: Buying a big screen for the big game

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

The Super Bowl is coming up and it is one of the biggest times of the year to buy a television.

Stores like Best Buy will sell a ton of televisions this week and anyone can benefit from the sales.

You can get a television built into your bathroom mirror. Have you seen these new curved screen televisions? And the big thing in TVs is now 4K.

So, what should you buy? LCD? LED? Plasma?

The simple rule is if you are upgrading from a television that is 3 years or older, anything you buy right now is going to be better and cheaper.

Here are the three top tips from Best Buy:
- Plasma for sports
- But if buying an LED, get the highest refresh rating
- Smart TV

CNET's TV Buying Guide says to go big. Buy a screen big as you can afford regardless of refresh rate or anything else. They recommend a 32 inch screen for the bedroom and at least 46 inches for a family.

But CNET and Best Buy agree that plasma TVs are best for sports.
