Passenger killed in crash near 43rd Ave & Cactus Rd

Posted: Updated:

Phoenix Police are investigating a deadly crash on 43rd Avenue & Cactus Road Saturday night.

Police were called to the intersection and found two vehicles with serious damage.  In one of the vehicles, a Nissan Altima, two women were injured, and both of them were taken to an area hospital.  Police say the passenger in the Nissan did not survive, and that the driver suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition at a Valley hospital.  Neither of them were wearing seat belts, according to police.

Sgt. Trent Crump, a spokesperson for Phoenix Police, says the Nissan was heading east on Cactus, and the driver did not stop for a red light at 43rd Avenue.  The Nissan crashed into a northbound Kia Optima; the driver of the Kia suffered only minor injuries, and was not impaired, police say.
