Md. man with warrant for his arrest falls onto Metro tracks

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

An intoxicated man was rescued by fellow Metro riders after he fell onto the tracks at the Cheverly station Thursday. But unfortunately for him, when police arrived, they discovered a warrant was out for his arrest.

Metro has released the surveillance video from this incident that happened around 10:11 a.m. Thursday.

26-year-old Eric Henderson of Bowie, Md., fell onto the inbound track. Metro says two minutes after the he fell, the station manager came to the platform and called for the power to be turned off.

Henderson was on the track for another three minutes before a group of riders pulled him up back onto the platform.

However, when Metro Transit Police arrived to the scene, they found that Henderson had a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear on a trespassing charge.

Metro Transit Police handed Henderson over to the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office at the hospital while he was being evaluated.

However, we are told the hospital released Henderson before handing him back to the police. He is currently not in custody and police are searching for him.

Police say he is not considered to be violent.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
