East Rutherford Preps For Super Bowl

Posted: Updated:
East Rutherford, New Jersey (My9NJ) - If you haven’t started to get that “game day fever” for the Super Bowl, now would be a good time to start! There are nine days left until the big game and preparation is in full swing in East Rutherford, New Jersey. For the first time, MetLife Stadium, located in East Rutherford, will play host to Super Bowl XLVIII and East Rutherford’s Mayor Jim Casella discussed more information about his towns’ preparation for the big night.

First, starting this Sunday, one week before the main event, the stadium will be closed to anyone without credentials to enter the sports complex. Authorized personnel will be the only ones allowed in to prep for the game and extra security has been added on the premises.

In addition, East Rutherford is having their own police and fire respondents working in conjunction with FBI and state police for an extra layer of security and peace of mind.

The mayor went on to discuss the NFL’s outlook and current treatment of East Rutherford as the host community for this event.

“People coming here from all over the country, especially from Seattle and Denver, they may know nothing about our area here, and they keep hearing New York. Their [NFL] attitude is East Rutherford doesn’t exist. They just have an attitude this game is really for football fans. This is for the NFL to make a lot of money,” Casella said.

Whether New Jersey or New York takes the credit for this year’s Super bowl, preparation for this game is the Garden State is unmatched, with recipients working hand in hand to make this game a huge success. And for those who are upset about not getting a ticket to the big game, don’t worry, Mayor Casella didn’t receive a ticket either.

“Over the last year, it’s been do you have any extra tickets to the game, but now it’s do you have a ticket and the answer is no. I have not been offered a chance to buy a ticket,” Casella responded.

A new law in Sayreville, New Jersey will now limit the sale of cigarettes only to people 21 years-of-age or older. While this law was passed with the intention to help reduce the number of teenage smokers, all its really done is anger convenience store owners and drive away customers.
