Couple pleads not guilty to the murder of Emani Moss

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

Eman and Tiffany Moss pled not guilty after being charged with the murder of 10-year-old Emani Moss.

"He made the wrong decision," said Robin Moss, Eman Moss’ mother.

Robin Moss says it's heartbreaking to lose a granddaughter and possibly her son who could face the death penalty. Moss says, "It's hard because you're losing two in one and I love my kids. I love my grandchildren."

The father and stepmother allegedly burned, then stuffed the girl in a trash can last November. Detectives say the couple bought the garbage can from Walmart. Police say the girl's father called 911 and told them his daughter had drunk some sort of chemical and was dead.

Robin Moss says she's not okay with what happened to her granddaughter, but still loves her son.

"It's not the person I raised. I'm just praying for both of them," said Robin Moss.

Meantime, Judge George Hutchinson expects attorneys to set a date to file all motions. The deadline is July 25th.

The Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office has confirmed that they plan on seeking the death penalty against the parents of 10-year-old Emani Moss.

Police believe Emani may have been dead several days before her body was found. Eman Moss told police that he did not feed the child in seven days and never called for help.

"It's not something that happens overnight. It's not something that happens over a few days," Gwinnett County Deputy Chief District Attorney Lisa Jones.

Emani Moss' body weighed just 32 pounds at the time of her death.

Eman and Tiffany Moss have been charged with murder, cruelty to children and concealing the death of another.
