NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

Commotion, consternation, confusion -- call it what you want. Super Bowl 48 is being played in New Jersey. But, when people say "New York" it's understood they mean the New York metropolitan area.

Nonetheless the issue is a source of debate. And, for some, consternation.

The official Super Bowl 48 program shows the New York City skyline in the background -- not Jersey City, Newark, or East Rutherford, New Jersey.

U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez said the NFL apparently needs a geography lesson. He was joined by Sen. Cory Booker, Rep. Bill Pascrell, and East Rutherford Mayor James Cassella at a press conference on Thursday to set the record straight about where the Super Bowl is being played.

"The Big Apple may have Super Bowl Boulevard but no one is going to be scoring touchdowns in Time Square," Menendez said. "Payton Manning won't be quarterbacking in Central Park and Richard Sherman won't be screaming in someone's face in the Financial District."

Super Bowl Boulevard is in Times Square. So are a bunch of events next week. But MetLife Stadium, according to my GPS, is indeed in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Just to be sure, I ventured into nearby Rutherford and stopped by a local ribs joint named Jim Dandy's, which, by the way, is already slammed with orders for game day.

I asked: "What do you think about the Super Bowl being in New York this year?"

The response: "First, it's not in New York, it's in New Jersey."

Okay, now that that's out of the way, the real question: is it annoying to hear people keeping saying Super Bowl 48 in New York?

"Yeah, because it's being played three minutes from here," he said.

The other thing that made it clear we weren't in New York? I couldn't find a cab anywhere.

In response to the press conference, the NFL said events will be in New York and New Jersey, but the game is being held in East Rutherford… New Jersey.

Just like I said.

The big question: will it snow?

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
