MAYWOOD, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A northwest suburban man was ordered held on a $500,000 bond Thursday after being charged with soliciting sex from a person he thought was a 15-year-old girl he met on Craigslist.

Randy Overla, 31, of Buffalo Grove is charged with traveling to meet a minor and solicitation of a child, the Cook County State's Attorney's office said in a statement.

Prosecutors claim Overla responded to a posting on the "strictly platonic" section of Craigslist, and believed he was talking to a 15-year-old girl from Berwyn.

For several days, they exchanged email and text messages that included Overla detailing sex acts, and indicating he wanted to have sex with the teen, the statement said.

He was arrested Tuesday at Morton West High School in Berwyn, where he thought he was meeting the girl, prosecutors said.

Overla, who previously lived in Arizona, had condoms in his jacket pocket when he was arrested, authorities claim.

Judge Ramon Ocasio ordered him held on $500,000 during a hearing Thursday, the state's attorney's office said. He will next appear in court Feb. 14 in Maywood.

The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Berwyn police handled the investigation.
