LITCHFIELD, Minn. (KMSP) -

The Minnesota National Guard confirmed 5 soldiers from the Litchfield-based 849th Mobility Augmentation Company were injured Monday in an attack on their base in Afghanistan.

The attack happened at 10:30 a.m. Afghanistan time at Forward Operating Base Pasab in Kandahar Province.

Lt. Col. Kevin Olson, spokesman for the Minnesota National Guard, said one soldier is recovering at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, and the 4 other soldiers are recovering in Afghanistan.

The names and conditions of the wounded soldiers cannot be released at this time; however, family members of one of the injured soldiers identified their loved one as Sgt. Robbie Sheets.

Sheets is a native of Green Isle, Minn., a small town located southwest of the Metro in Sibley County.

"He just wants to reassure people that they are going to be okay," Lacie Walker, Sheets' cousin, told Fox 9 News. "Continued prayers are appreciated. I wish I knew more, but for the time being, take the good news."

The Department of Defense identified Chief Warrant Officer Edward Balli, 42, of Monterey, Calif. as the one service member killed in Monday's attack on the NATO base by Taliban suicide bombers and gunmen.

All 9 insurgents were killed during the attack, according to an Afghan official.

Making New York City more energy efficient

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
