New Wedding Insurance Policies Offer A Refund To Weddings Gone Sour

Posted: Updated:

New wedding insurance options are increasing the cost of already-expensive weddings. In fact, the average wedding costs around $26,000. Increasingly, some brides with the fear that their fiancés could get cold feet are purchasing wedding insurance to protect the luxuries that come with saying "I do!"

Some fears are more geared towards the indeterminable or uncontrollable factors like inclement weather or flaky caterers/limo drivers/photographers/ice sculptors (hey, the option is there!). The insurance policies give an option for the booker to make a claim on the deposit money.

Hartford-based Travelers Cos Inc. are one of the few insurance companies that offer wedding coverage. Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. is another such company.

Restrictions vary by insurance company, but you can follow up here to understand some of the fine print.

The insurance companies emphasize that wedding insurance is not their biggest revenue stream, but they use it as a way to connect with couples who might later think of the company for home or life insurance.
