CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Staples stores around the country began to test out a new program this week.

Some stores began to offer Post Office services inside their stores. The catch is, they will be manned by Staples employees and not union workers.

Postal clerks make roughly $25 dollars per hour with benefits; Staples employees a lot less.

"Postal workers need to compete like anyone else and making wages that simply aren't economical certainly in today's environment. I give the Post Office itself a big hand for actually trying to right the ship, to actually make some profits and put themselves on a steady financial course," Capitalist Pig Hedge Fund manager Jonathan Hoenig said.

The test sites have not made their way to Chicago, but if the company and the postal service deems the test successful, the union has promised a fight.

The American Postal Workers Union president Mark Dimondstein said, 'If Staples insists on continuing to refuse to staff those stores with postal workers, we're going to urge people to take their business elsewhere."
