Report: Eliot Spitzer divorce papers filed

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A report claims that former New York governor Eliot Spitzer and his wife, Silda Wall have filed for divorce.

The Daily News reports the contested divorce comes after lawyers were unable to bring their 26-year marriage to an amicable end.

Lisa Linden, a spokeswoman for Eliot Spitzer told Fox 5 News: "We have no comment on this topic."

The petition was filed as "Anonymous vs Anonymous", according to the Daily News.

It comes almost six years after Spitzer resigned in disgrace as governor after he was caught up in a prostitution scandal.

Spitzer has started a relationship with Lis Smith, the former press aide from his failed run for City Controller. Smith has been working on Mayor de Blasio's transition team.

They were photographed together in Jamaica over the New Year's holiday.
