Brookhaven boy honored for brave deed

Posted: Updated:
BROOKHAVEN, Ga. -

An 8-year-old Brookhaven boy was honored on Tuesday for his brave actions.

Chris Mattus helped police nab a car break-in suspect back in December. The young man spotted a man trying to break into his parents' car and told his mother, who called police. Chris' description of the man help authorities track him down at a nearby construction site. Since then, officers have tied the suspect to six other car break-in cases.

Brookhaven's mayor and police honored Chris on Tuesday for his work.  Chris was made an honorary police officer, received a certificate and a coveted shirt.

The chief said it's rare for a child to be able to provide such a detailed description, and the one Chris gave was as good as any of his officers'.
