Posted: Updated:

(FOX11/ CNS) - Mayor Eric Garcetti was a passenger in an LAPD vehicle that struck a 60-year-old woman in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday.

The woman, who was hit around 12:20 p.m., was conscious and alert, but she was taken to Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center as a precaution, according to Capt. Steve Ruda of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

According to the mayor's office, the vehicle -- a black SUV used traditionally used to transport the mayor -- was being driven eastbound on Second Street near Spring Street when it struck the woman.

The mayor was on the phone at the time and did not see the person get hit, according to his office. He was interviewed by LAPD investigators.

"I'm very concerned about her and wish her a speedy recovery," Garcetti said. "I look forward to speaking with her soon."

Officials said the mayor was returning to City Hall following an interview with the Associated Press.
