Democrats React To State of State Speech

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, NJ -

Reacting to the Governor Christie's speech are his political opponents. Democrats held a news conference immediately after the state of the state address.

Democrat State House Leaders used their response to Gov. Christie's State of The State to hit back on issues like property taxes, the economy, and pensions. Reporters pressed them on the "Bridgegate Scandal" and they did not want to talk about that.

General Assembly Leaders announced the formation of a committee to investigate the traffic jam on the George Washington Bridge last September and the subpoena power to go with it.

"That's a separate issue that's why we are setting up the committees. We are going to re-up them and that will work itself out of it," State Senator Stephen M. Sweeney said.

Instead democratic leaders used most of their response to the state of the state to hit Gov. Christie on issues like pensions and tax cuts.

"We think we are standing up for women and the working poor, that's not his group, so I don't expect anything to change," Sweeney said.

The Senate also announced their own plan to work on subpoenas. Those meetings start on Thursday.
