Heroes honored for pulling little girl out of septic tank

FLORENCE, Ariz. -

A 2-year-old girl nearly drowned after falling through a broken lid that covered a septic tank.

On Monday, little Kylie Lafferty was released from a hospital -- and on Tuesday, the first responders who jumped into raw sewage to save her were honored.

What was it like, searching desperately inside a pitch-black septic tank in sewage over four feet deep, trying to find a toddler who had fallen in?

Through a translator, Audencio Rios, the man who pulled the little girl out, said, "When he saw her, she was black and he thought it was too late... and right now, he can see her and he cannot believe it.. it is something incredible."

Henry Ricketts helped Audencio. He jumped in without hesitation and says he'd do it again.

"I just want to thank everybody.. when I went to prison.. helped me get on the right path and when I got out, I would've done it for anybody."

When they found Kylie, she had no pulse and was not breathing.  Chelsea Cunningham performed CPR and brought her back to life.

"We were pretty close to Saturday being a tragic day and I am absolutely grateful I had the knowledge base to step forward and be of any assistance and be part of the team that kept Kylie alive," she said.

All Kylie's mom can say is thank you.

"She means the world to me.  If I lost her, I do not know what I would do if I lost her and I am so glad you were there and did everything you could for me," said Emily Howard.

A very sweet moment in Florence.  The message for everyone: Take action in a crisis and learn CPR.

NYPD probing raising of white flags at Brooklyn Bridge

The NYPD is investigating a major security breach at the Brooklyn Bridge, one of the most highly secured landmarks in New York City. Two white flags — international symbols of surrender — fluttered from poles on the stone supports that hold cables above the bridge connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan. The flags had a faint appearance of the stars and stripes. The American flags that are normally up at the bridge appeared to have been removed.
