New Jersey’s Celebrity Houses

Posted: Updated:
South Orange, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Even in tough economic times, celebrities are still buying and selling homes.

HGTV star and luxury home specialist Sam Joseph chimed in to talk exclusively about New Jersey’s celebrity housing market.

“A lot of times with celebrity clients you don’t know who you’re working with until they pull up,” he said.

Rosie O'Donnell just purchased a home in Saddle River. It is a 5,200 sq. ft. home built in 1928. But according to Joseph, this wasn’t her first choice.

“She was looking in my area in Montclair. In fact, she went and knocked on someone’s door and offered to buy their house and they said it’s not for sale, they slammed the door on her and she knocked again. She said do you know who I am and they said yes we do and they slammed the door on her again,” Joseph said.

As a result, O’Donnell’s new $6.3 million house wasn’t even her first choice!

While the Garden State just gained O’Donnell, we’re losing Queen Latifah. She just listed her home in Colts Neck for sale for $2.4 million. Sam isn’t really impressed with the fairly new home that was custom-built in 2001.

”It’s basically a shake and bake kind of house. It’s new; ya know the double foyer, the usually blah blah that people love. Not a lot of personality, it will sell however because of her celebrity,” he said.

Joseph has worked with many celebrities, but often has to sign a confidentiality agreement. He did share however that he helped Whoopi Goldberg find a home in New Jersey. He also noted that his business is very recession proof. “Wealthy people will always have money,” he said.
