JOLIET, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Will County Sheriff's police on Wednesday arrested a Lockport man at the county courthouse for allegedly beating up his girlfriend, according to police.

Sheriff's police spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said Eugene Weddington, 31, was wanted for questioning in a Monday night attack on the woman at her home on Conner Avenue in Lockport Township, the SouthtownStar is reporting.

At 10:25 p.m., police were called to the home, where the 24-year-old woman was being taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox with non-life threatening injuries, Hoffmeyer said.

The victim told police that she arrived home and entered her bedroom "when Weddington, whom she had been dating, forced her to the bed and held her there while he physically assaulted her," Hoffmeyer said. "The victim was eventually able to scream for help, and Weddington fled the scene."

After being questioned Wednesday night, Weddington, of 2134 Luther Ave., was charged with aggravated domestic battery, unlawful restraint and residential burglary, police said.
