ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - Murder charges have been filed against a 14-year-old Atlantic City boy accused of fatally shooting another teenager this week.

The suspect, whose name was not released due to his age, was also charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses stemming from Wednesday afternoon's shooting. He was charged as a juvenile, but Atlantic County prosecutors may seek to have him tried as an adult.

Prosecutors say the boy fired several shots at a group of teens. Witnesses have said several boys were fighting in the street shortly before the shooting occurred.

Thirteen-year-old Angel Mercado-Santiago was shot once in the chest and died a short time later at a hospital, while a 15-year-old boy suffered a leg wound that is not considered life-threatening.

A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
