PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

A standing ovation for a holocaust survivor in Chandler Friday.

"My job is to go over the world and speak to young people about the fighting spirit of the Jewish people and the holocaust" said Phillip Bialowitz.

Phillip Bialowitz was only 18 years-old when he was forced into a death camp in Poland Sobibór.

"I am a living witness, I am a survivor, I witness the horror and the history" said Bialowitz.

The audience was filled with students from Chandler schools and they were impressed with his story. He told them how the prisoners overpowered their captors and freed 200 people from the death camp.

Lindsay Kloth a 9th grader remarked about Bialowitz's story, "It made me emotional, I can say that for the rest of us in the audience."

He has written a book and helped with a TV mini series called "Escape from Sobibór".

"I promised at Sobibór to tell the story of what happened in the war... how we fight for our lives and dignity." said Bialowitz.

It's a lesson teenagers at today's event will never forget.
