White Lake Twp. man, 72, found dead outside after plowing with tractor

(WJBK) -

Police in Oakland County's White Lake Township the body of 72-year-old Alton Barett was found Tuesday outside his home in the community. Neighbors saw Barett outside on his tractor plowing the snow. They tell Fox 2's Alexis Wiley the action did not surprise them, because that's the kind of person he was.

"It just kind of bothers me that I might have looked over there while he was laying there," says neighbor Kyle Harmon.

It's believed his tractor may have gotten stuck in the snow and he was using a shovel to try and dig it out, which may make him the fifth person in Michigan who died after shoveling snow. The official cause of death is pending from the medical examiner's office.

Michigan authorities as of Tuesday had reported seven other deaths during the winter storm, including four who collapsed after shoveling snow and three killed in traffic accidents.
