Sky Harbor Airport seeks increase in passenger facility charge

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Flying out of Phoenix could become a bit more expensive if airport officials receive approval for an increase in passenger facility charges.

Right now the airport charges passengers $4.50 per ticket. The airport is seeking to charge $8.50 per ticket.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is self funded and funds generated through the program are not by law able to be used in other departments within the city.

The PFC program allows the collection of fees for every boarded passenger at commercial airports controlled by public agencies. Airports  like Sky Harbor use these fees to fund FAA-approved projects that enhance safety, security, or capacity; reduce noise; or increase air carrier competition.

Mayor Bill de Blasio is pulling back the reins on his plans to quickly get rid of New York City's horse-drawn carriage industry, stung by a recent outpouring of support for the colorful coaches that have clip-clopped their way through Central Park for more than 150 years. A campaign pledge to take on the horses during his first week as mayor was eclipsed by other issues.
