FOX 29 Checks In On Little Boy After Life-Saving Transplant Surgery

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH PHILADELPHIA -

He's the little boy who has captured our hearts. We're checking in on a little boy after his life-saving transplant surgery. He's making good progress and today got a special treat.

It's onward and upward for 7-year-old Weston Keeton, to see him now get out of bed not panting for breath it's a miracle.

After a 2 and a half year wait, Weston was given a life-saving surgery -- a double lung and heart transplant at CHOP just two weeks before Christmas.

Weston's mom, Julie, says her family prays for the donor family everyday she will be forever grateful for the gift that saved her son's life.

Weston has been off and on a breathing tube since the surgery. He's still on oxygen 24-7 while his body continues to adjust to the transplant...and his muscles grow stronger.

But overall, Julie says Weston has made incredible progress.

"Getting up was a huge step in recovery seeing that he wanted to walk and cycle around," Julie said. "To see him now get out of bed not panting for breath it's a miracle."

Weston certainly now has his appetite back! He was treated to one of his favorite restaurants Chickies and Pete's. The restaurant is hosting a poker tournament fundraiser for the little fighter to help his family with expenses.

Volunteers are working to help save one of the only stadiums still in existence where black professional baseball teams once played. Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson was once home to the New York Black Yankees, the New York Cubans and other Negro League teams. Eleven members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame played there, including Larry Doby.

Robert De Niro says Tribeca Film Festival is his passion

Robert De Niro is a family man, a filmmaker, an entrepreneur and one of my favorite actors of all time. He's also a co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, which has more to see than ever before. De Niro wears just as many hats on screen as he does in real life. The father of six starred in six films last year, owns four restaurants and a hotel, and still finds time each spring for the Tribeca Film Festival, Lower Manhattan's annual cinematic showcase.
