Monroe County Sheriff: Stay off the roads

Posted: Updated:

PRESS RELEASE: Due to the continued weather alert and road conditions, the motoring public is asked to stay off Monroe County roads until 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014.

This includes all primary, secondary and side roads until this time. We are asking for everyone's assistance and compliance to allow Monroe County Road Commission crews to clear roads and contractors to remove the many stranded and abandoned vehicles that are blocking roads.

Citizens are asked not to travel on roads except for essential travel to and from work or emergencies until 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 8. Do not travel until this time.

The condition of the roads will be evaluated at this time to determine if extended or additional travel restrictions will be required. When vehicles become stranded on roadways, Road Commission trucks cannot get through to plow the road.

Additionally, tow truck contractors are having a difficult time removing the existing abandoned vehicles, therefore we are asking motorists to refrain from venturing out and creating additional stranded vehicles.

Priorities remain on clearing primary roads to ensure emergency vehicles can travel throughout the County. Law enforcement resources are stretched to the maximum limit attending to emergency calls for stranded motorists and coordinating efforts to direct traffic in very difficult weather conditions.

Motorists may not get help for 2-3 hours if they venture out and become stranded due to resource limitations.

The saying art is autobiographical takes on a whole new meaning when your canvas is a fully nude human body, as it is for artist Andy Golub. Andy along with 30 other artists and 45 Technicolor models paraded around several Manhattan hotspots over the weekend for NYC Body Painting day. Believe or not, this is completely legal in New York City.
