Bi-Partisan Booker

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Senator Cory Booker has said repeatedly that he’ll work with anyone regardless of political party and he recently proved it.

Known for his tweeting, Senator Booker had a twitter exchange with Tea Party poster child, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul.

It started off as Senator Paul tweeting and joking that Senator Booker doesn’t retweet him enough. It then turned serious as the two discussed mandatory drug sentencing and possibly being able to work together in the future.

The Twitter conversation ended with Senator Booker Tweeting “Here’s to 2014 where we take on a failed war on drugs.”

It’s not unusual for opposing party Senators to discuss legislation. However, the public nature of twitter and the fact that Senator Paul is a likely opponent of Booker’s friend Governor Chris Christie, has people talking.

Political Blogger Matt Rooney discussed this new-found friendship.

“It’s interesting. You wouldn’t expect to find these guys at the same cocktail party, but I think its part of a larger trend that’s going on right now in American politics. You have liberals like Cory Booker who have an interest in civil liberties and then you have the libertarians like Rand Paul who are also very much opposed to the “war on drugs” and “the use of drone strikes by the American government” so they’re finding a few issues where they can work together,” he said.

Rooney said that this could also be a platform for Booker to possibly discuss the topic of race on a national level.

“The war on drugs has disproportionately devastated the African American community and other minority communities so instead of always focusing on handing things out and doling things out, I would love to see liberals like Cory Booker work with guys like Rand Paul to address the real inequalities in our society,” he said.

StubHub, which is a website that provides services for buyers and sellers for tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other live entertainment events, has been hacked. StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.

Making New York City more energy efficient

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
