Possible Snow Bowl?

Posted: Updated:
East Rutherford, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Ever since it was announced that the upcoming Super Bowl would be in New Jersey at the MetLife Stadium, there has been speculation about what kind of weather conditions the teams will be enduring.

This is the first ever, cold weather, outdoor Super Bowl in history and many people are concerned about how Mother Nature may affect the players and the outcome of the game.

In an attempt to calm public concern, the NFL has addressed this matter stating that they are fully prepared for freezing temperatures and snow with equipment like plows and ice melters.

In addition, the NFL does have a contingency plan where they are willing to even move the game to the Saturday before or the Monday after based on just how bad the weather may be.

New Jersey state climatologist David Robinson chimed in to talk about whether or not game-goers can expect a Super Bowl blizzard this February.

“It would be unlikely, what we’ve done here is looked at climatologic odds, we are not making a weather forecast for February 2, 2014. Climatologists look at the longer term; they don’t look at the day to day weather in terms of forecast potential. Meteorologists are concerned with what’s going to happen for the next week or two, climatologists will look at the longer term, past, present and future and try to look at the odds for that to occur, ” he said.

However, Robinson said that doesn’t mean that you have to wait until the day of the event to get an understanding of how the weather will hold up.

“About two weeks before we should have an idea whether it will be above or below normal in the temperature department, and a week before maybe we can see if there is a storm threat on the horizon. Then within a couple days before we can zero in on kickoff conditions,” he said.

Sadly, Jeter the pit bull puppy is missing. While dogs go missing all the time, there are two specific things that distinguish this story from others. First, several witnesses say Jeter didn't wonder off and that they saw Jeter get taken. Second, the community has rallied in a huge way to help find the loveable pup.

Empty spaces are popping up all over Atlantic City with the closing of three major casinos: Revel, Trump Plaza, and Showboat. Even with all of this going on, the city is still trying to use eminent domain to take away the home of an Atlantic City local legend, Piano Man Charlie Birnbaum. Birnbaum has tuned pianos for icons like: Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, and John Legend. He's been a resident of Atlantic City in the same home for over 50 years.

NASA is reviewing data from a rocket launch that tested a new sub-payload deployment method for suborbital rockets. NASA says a Black Brant IX suborbital rocket was launched at 5 a.m. Thursday from the agency's Wallops Island Flight Facility on Virginia's Eastern Shore. The new deployment method uses small rocket motors to eject sub-payloads from a rocket's main payload. Thursday's test included releasing vapor traces in space.
