Tour of OEM command center

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Fox 5 was given an exclusive look inside the Office of Emergency Management's watch command -- the same tour Mayor Bill de Blasio received.

The OEM staffers are monitoring the city's storm response around the clock. We got to see the OEM team of experts in action as they analyzed the latest storm developments from the national weather service, and coordinated plans for first responders, transportation and even towing stalled out vehicles.

The rapidly developing storm is the first big challenge of de Blasio's new administration. The mayor assembled the heads of all major city agencies at OEM headquarters to coordinate the plans, which he hopes will minimize the inconvenience and danger to New Yorkers. But he asked city residents to do their part and stay indoors and off the roads if possible.

OEM has a way for you to get the latest alerts customized to fit your needs. All you have to do is sign up on nyc.gov/notifynyc.
