Shooting Victim's Neighbor Pleas For End To Violence

Posted: Updated:
CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. -

"I heard gunshots and when I ran to the door, I didn't see anything," Barbara Ingram recalled.

Soon after, a neighbor told Barbara Ingram the bad news. A family friend in his 30s had been shot to death.

"I just ran and started shaking," she said.

The victim was shot around one o'clock on the 700 block of Division Street.

Who pulled the trigger and why remains under investigation.

"It's just so sad how these young boys are just killing each other," she said. "You know for somebody to lose their life on New Year's you know it's just so sad out here."

Ingram described the victim as a loner who kept to himself. She says she had known him since he was a teenager and considered herself his auntie.

"He used to come eat my cornbread on Sundays. He likes my cornbread. He used to come and eat with me," she remembered.

Ingram says she's had it with the violence in her area. She hopes others can follow this New Year's resolution.

"If you have an argument or a dispute, just leave it alone, try to work it out. Don't resort to no guns and no killing each other. Just leave it alone. It's not that heavy that you have to kill somebody," she said.

Police have had this area taped off for several hours as they continue to work the crime scene. At this time, investigators have no suspects. The identities of the victims have not been released by the coroner at this time. Anyone with information about the shootings can call the Camden County prosecutors office.
