COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are investigating the murder Sunday of a 42-year-old woman at her south suburban home, the SouthtownStar is reporting.

Mary Hayden of 4588 W. 179th St. in County Club Hills died from a severe blow to her head and was pronounced dead about 8:20 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Mayor Dwight Welch said Monday afternoon the killing resulted from a domestic dispute in which Hayden and a relative "had an altercation and the rest is what it is.

"With the family involved, it's really sad. I feel really bad about it," Welch said, declining to provide more details.

City public safety director William Brown described Hayden's death as an "isolated incident." He declined to disclose more information, including when her body was found and by whom.

An autopsy Monday found she died of craniocerebral injuries and blunt head trauma from an assault, and ruled her death a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.

Yellow police tape surrounded Hayden's property Monday afternoon. A van and a Toyota Camry were parked in the turnaround, and an empty trailer hitch and playground were in the back yard.

Two police officers, members of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, were seen carrying a paper bag out of the two-story house, and a city police officer was parked in front of the house.
